Bespoke Thermal Modelling and Overheating Calculations

What are bespoke thermal bridge calculations?

-
Detailed drawings of thermal bridges are entered into Trisco thermal modelling software helping to identify weak points (or areas) within the building envelope. Thermal bridges are created when there is a discontinuity in the thermal performance of a building, enabling additional heat loss They generally occur when the insulation layer is interrupted by a more conductive material or a change in the geometry, for example when a wall meets a floor or around openings like a windows and doorways .
-
By using thermal bridging calculations (psi values ), an accurate rate of heat loss from junctions will be assessed, avoiding the need for any default values.
-
Thermal modelling will also identify any condensation risk factors(fRSI) on internal surfaces which may lead to mould growth causing damage to building fabric.

Who we work with?
Sap assessors among other professionals within the construction industry.

How are Psi values used in sap?

The bespoke Psi-values are used in Y value Sap calculations avoiding default figures, which also helps to comply with Part L of building regulations.

Why use bespoke thermal bridge calculations?

-
As well as improving on your SAP score and avoiding the default Y value of 2.0, bespoke calculations can help avoid expensive design changes to achieve Part L building regulations.
-
The additional heat losses from these junctions can account for 20% to 30% of the overall heat loss through the building fabric.
-
Identifies condensation risk factor(fRSI) on internal surfaces which may lead to mould growth causing damage to building fabric.
